Pledges allow you to make a commitment to be paid over a period of time based on an agreed-upon payment schedule. For this campaign, the timeline is three years*. Donors find that they can increase the impact of a gift by making a multiyear pledge. By spreading payments over a period of time, pledges allow donors to make larger commitments and fulfill them at a comfortable pace. Donors receive an income tax deduction for the amount given each year.
*If a pledge fulfilled over 4 or 5 years would work better for you, please indicate that on your gift commitment card.
For many donors, using appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, and mutual funds) is a desirable way to make a gift. When the securities are given directly to the church, the donor receives a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of the gift to the full extent allowed by law while avoiding capital gains tax.
If you would like more information on giving a gift of securities, please reach out to our Treasurer, Cathy Chase, at treasurer@midducc.org or by calling her at 802-989-0039.
Your IRA can provide a tax-smart way to make an impact with The Congregational Church of Middlebury now. The Qualified Charitable Distribution or QCD (sometimes called an “IRA Charitable Rollover”) is a great way to make a tax-free gift now to The Congregational Church of Middlebury and can be a part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), too.
In order to qualify:
You must be 70 and ½ years or older at the time of the gift.
Gifts must go directly from your IRA to The Congregational Church of Middlebury, UCC.
For 2026, total QCD gifts cannot exceed $111,000 per donor.
Benefits of Qualified Charitable Distribution:
If you don’t itemize your income tax deductions, a QCD offers all of the benefits of an itemized income tax charitable deduction.
If you are age 70 and ½ or older and must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), a QCD gift can satisfy your RMD without increasing your income taxes.
A donor advised fund, or DAF, is a philanthropic vehicle established at a public charity (like Vermont Community Foundation, Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, etc.). It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit, and then recommend grants from the fund over time. The donor can choose The Congregational Church of Middlebury, VT, UCC to receive grants from the fund and help fulfill your commitment to the campaign.
Donating residential, or undeveloped real estate will provide support for the capital campaign while likely saving on taxes, reducing responsibilities associated with property ownership, and meeting your own needs.
